There are two important issues for small to medium-sized manufacturers to solve in order to survive and expand:

1. The best way to compete against low cost mass produced imports is to offer high flexibility in design and short delivery times.

2. Producing efficiently in a situation where skilled labour is scarce and expensive, design becomes more complicated and delivery times become shorter.

The answer to this can be found in integrated CAD/CAM solutions. This means integrating with the help of software all processes from design to manufacturing into one slick automated system. Each manufacturer has different processing needs, and we at NEY don’t claim to be able to provide a solution to suit all possible requirements. But we have four software tools which can be combined in different ways. These combinations will cover most of the needs
of:

Bespoke Cabinet Manufacturers

Prototype departments in large organisations

External door, window and staircase manufacturers

The following pages will introduce these four elements with two different furniture design packages to choose from, a cutting optimiser and a CNC programming tool also covering the aspects of nesting and joinery requirements. Finding the right combination for your production and helping you to implement it is the next step that requires discussions between you and us.

There is an abundance of software tools available in the market; choosing and mixing the right one(s) can be a confusing experience. Considering the low investment cost (compared with a machine) it seems easy to buy any of them, but the process of implementation can go horribly wrong. From our own and our customers’ experience we would like to point out general rules to keep in mind when planning to integrate your production:

Before looking at software make yourself a wish list of all processes you would like to    cover.

Check the software offered against that list (maybe re- think your list).

Keep the decision making and implementation process at the highest possible level within
   your organisation.

Have sufficient capacity available to cover the implementation process.
