The benefits of taking control over quality, lead times, foil selection and non standard sizes have resulted in many manufacturers making the decision to undertake the pressing of foils for their own production. This also gives the opportunity to create bespoke designs. The choice of press should not only be influenced by the anticipated production volumes but also the expected batch size as certain types of press offer more flexibility for small quantities. |

Additionally consideration should be given to the type of foils to be used particularly with regard to high gloss materials.
The kolmag range of presses are renowned the world over for their strength, build quality and simplicity of use. Being one of the first companies worldwide to develop the foil wrapping process Kolmag have an unrivalled amount of experience in this market.
The range features single daylight presses, single or twin shuttle machines with a choice of working areas. The unique feature of the Kolmag machines that is at the very core of their flexibility and ease of use is that by using a flexible membrane suspended over a water bed, the complexity of vacuum systems is eliminated.
The water is heated to approximately 90 degrees which reactivates the adhesive and softens the PVC foil. The pressure exerted by the press forces the panel into the membrane causing the foil to wrap the panel. This method of application allows individual panels, even a single draw front to be pressed without wasting material. The press can also be loaded with different panels of varying colour foil maximising output.
Most producers of high quality high gloss doors use this method of pressing and the results on high gloss generally exceed the finish quality that can be achieved on conventional machines.
In addition with the correct specification Kolmag presses are capable of wrapping veneered panels to a very high standard which opens up a whole new range of possibilities for furniture manufacturers. |
